March 16, a unique technology pageant, 2008 KIC Robot Marathon Competition & Carnival, took place in Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) Jiangwan Sports Center (previously known as Jiangwan Stadium) Shanghai. Hundreds of robots gathered and had a fierce fighting; thousands of audience experienced the charm of technology in a short distance. A storm of wisdom and creativity swept the city of Shanghai. Jiangwan Sports Center was filled with all kinds of festive entertainment. “Let technology into our Life, and light Shanghai with creativity!”
KIC Robot Marathon Competition & Carnival is mainly composed of three components: 2008 FLL (FIRST LEGO League) Asia-Pacific Championships in South China Region Direct Election Competition and East China Invitational Competition, KIC Super Robot Concept Competition and Adult Competitions, and KIC Super Robot Competition and College Student Competition.
World-renowned FLL is a Technical grand feast hold for juvenile, and intends to stimulate their potential of creativity and to encourage their enthusiasm of exploration. FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded by the famous American inventor Dean Kamen, it is the first 10 years of FLL. This time, KIC brought the prestigious event into Shanghai and into Yangpu area where the talents gathered; meanwhile, also the organizing committee set an ad hoc match for college students, hoped that this robot match would blend both entertainment and education in their life, and would provide a more diversified exchange platform for the knowledge-based community culture.

9:00, 2008 FLL Asia-Pacific Championships in South China Region Direct Election Competition and East China Invitational Competition got onstage on Jiangwan Sports Center Basketball Hall. The challenge of this year is "Power Puzzle", the tasks include a series of pre-set energy obstacles such as Roof Solar Panel、Tree Plating、Wind Turbines、etc. These obstacles will be moved, transplanted, transported by the "Terminators", which are designed, assembled, programmed and equipped by Lego Building Blocks and Lego NXT Bluetooth. They will be operated by their little masters to complete the different tasks within the time limited, they are graceful and fast in their movements, which fully demonstrates the wisdom of the exceptional designers. It was amazing! In addition to the robot competition, the teams also had to present their project of solving the problem of energy resources by suggesting innovative ideas. The participants’ brilliant performance along with joyful music and cheering audience surround the hall with passion and vigor.
After several rounds of intense rivalries, STARWAR team from Shanghai Jinyuan Senior High School and the team from Carmel Secondary School, Hong Kong bit down all the way more than 100 participating teams from southern China from the East China branch, with their outstanding executive abilities and perfect performances. They will get the opportunity on behalf of China bound for Japan, and compete with teams from around the world in the 2008 FLL Asia-Pacific Championship. Other participant teams have been given one FLL medal at the final ceremony for their commitment and dedication. All Special Awards will be conferred exclusively at FLL final. Such as strategy, teamwork, competitive spirit, creativity and innovation of the design and so on.

In addition to FLL competition, there are the Super Competition in which university students participate and the Super Concept Competition In which adults participate. University students of Fudan, Shanghai Jiaotong, Tongji and other well-known universities converged on the Super Competition. They are robot enthusiasts with infinite creativity and theory knowledge of engineering, technology and science. After many rounds of player killing on Peak Reaching, the robot from School of Software Engineering, Tongji University, won the first place in the Super Competition. The Super Concept Competition participants are mainly from the KIC Tech Park enterprises, including those from EMC, Oracle and other internationally renowned high-tech companies’ elite, engineers, R & D staff. In the venues modeled after KIC, the participating teams through Bluetooth communications to control their robot. Cars were raced both on speed and skills. After a round robin, Oracle's robot is ahead of other robots, and won the big prize. Tension mounted as contestants were fiercely competing inside the court; Cheer roared as cheerleaders were bustling about outside the court. They were wearing extraordinary costumes, dancing with wonderful moves accompanied with voices cheering for their own teams.
On that day, KIC also showed the audience who came to the Jiangwan Sports Center a colorful carnival of technology: "Creative Gallery" is a creative museum in KIC, a number of products designed by many top designers from abroad attract people’s attention; "Robot experience zone", where the experienced coaches from Lego will demonstrate the theory of how to operate the robot, guide the audience to visit their DIY robot, and to experience the fun and charm of science and technology; in" Talent interactive area ", some wonderful performances will be given in turn, the world's best Kickboxing, yoga gymnastics, pushed the atmosphere to a climax again and again. Jiangwan swimming pool opened for the public the first time after the repair, many visitors who love swimming registered for a membership card at once. In the coming summer, it will be an ideal place for body-building.
KIC World Marathon Carnival will be a grand feast which interpreted the high-tech competition as a relaxing, vivid, lively and happy event with less overcautious, tension and more tolerance and encouragement.
